House of Falling Embers
House of Falling Embers | Krystal Jane Ruin
4 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
Once upon a time there was a witch. She was a kind witch, but that didn’t matter. The people were afraid, and fear often turns to hatred. When Artemis was thirteen, her best friend Aris was swallowed by the crumbling house they found in the woods. Like a coward, she abandoned him to the horror within. She moved away. She tried to forget. But when she finds herself back in her old neighborhood after college, the ghosts—and her guilt—are waiting. A charred figure stalks her dreams, and someone, or something, haunts her from the trees. Going back into the woods might be the only way to save her sanity. Because nine years later, the house is still there. Still waiting. Still restless.

Witches and curses, mysterious beings and a long lost love...a perfect read for this time of year. The supernatural quirky twists are creepily written with enough scares to make me want to keep reading. I loved this story!

Artemis feels guilty because her friend Aris is missing from years ago. Her current boyfriend Link doesn't really understand why she is acting the way she does.

I loved the paranormal portion of this story. Although it was mysterious, it was more of a freaky ghost-ish story that kept me wondering what was real and contemplating if it was all a ruse to lure Artemis into a horrific circumstance. I also really liked that I was able to feel the turmoil in the MC as she was trying to decide what was real and what was not. Full review at www.thegenreminx.com #bookreviewer #TheGenreMinxBookReviews
