March was quite a month of reading. I think the Vargas Llosa wins as my favorite of the month but The Somme and To The Lighthouse were also terrific. Olive Grove in Ends is a very strong debut novel and The Museum of Abandoned Secrets is very timely. I think it‘s the type of novel (weighty historical fiction) one should read to get a small picture of what another country is like. The Black Jacobins is a stellar history of the Haitian Revolution.

There are 16 weeks left until 2020, and this year my focus was on minority/translated: authors of color, LGBTQIA+ authors, women authors, indigenous authors, authors in translation. I have another 4 books I want to get to for this theme, so I planned them out to stay on schedule. 2020 will be about reading the standards for lit majors, since I can count the # I've already read on one hand 😬 what does everyone have planned for the rest of 2019?

Butterfinger I have almost completed all my challenges except for#AroundtheWorld challenge. 52 books from 52 different countries. I'm trying to complete before 2020, but I'll be alright if I have to carry over. It is a great challenge because I'm learning about different cultures, people, and histories. 6y
bromeliad @Butterfinger That's an awesome challenge! Any favorites stand out? 6y
Butterfinger @bromeliad I just finished a Venezuelan western called Dona Barbara. I enjoyed Ghana's Homegoing. 6y
rwmg @Butterfinger @bromeliad I loved Dona Barbara. I saw on google that it's been made into a telenovela, which I can really imagine 6y
