There are whole Jasper Fforde series out in the world that have past me by, unnoticed… I saw this when I was perfect ordering the YA section today (featuring my messed up index finger. I try not to look at it.)

I love Jasper Fforde but I did forget about him for a second there (when is the last nursery crimes book coming out?!)

Pickpick

I liked this conclusion to the Last Dragonslayer series. It‘s very Ffordean, all the way down to his own cameo as a fantasy writer brought in to imagine the villain‘s plans, since fantasy writers can always come up with something bigger and bolder than anyone else could imagine. 😂 It‘s a bit light on emotional connection/depth for me, which is the same criticism I had with the previous book. But it‘s a fun YA novel in true Ffordean style.

‘Tell us a weird idea you‘ve come up with that‘s *totally* out there.‘

‘…a book about Humpty Dumpty as a police procedural.‘
‘I think that‘s been done,‘ said the Troll. ‘Everyone‘s always retelling nursery rhymes…‘
‘How about a social order based wholly on the strength of your colour vision?‘
‘Better,‘ I said. ‘Is there a sequel?‘
‘Don‘t you start.‘

😂🤣 THAT‘s a Jasper Fforde move if I ever saw one.
