On the brink of war, the fates of both Artim and Quill are at stake in book six of the New York Times bestselling Unwanteds series, which Kirkus Reviews called The Hunger Games meets Harry Potter. Alex and Aaron Stowe are at a crossroads. Everything Aaron has worked so hard to build in Quill has crumbled. Fallen from the height of power and influence and left for dead in a foreign place, Aaron has lost everything, and now he must humbly beg for food from those who saved his life. In Artim, Alex chooses his people over his brother and abandons his search for Aaron, closing the door on that relationship forever. The Artimeans need his focus now more than ever as they face the terrifying power of a new enemy who has taken control of Quillthe notoriously evil Gondoleery Rattrapp. Desperate to stop her, Alex embarks on a risky mission to enlist help from an unlikely ally, and along the way hes determined to rescue a lone sailor from monstrous beasts with mysterious originsa sailor who just might show Alex a different world. As he prepares for an epic war with all of Quill and Artime hanging in the balance, Alex must place his faith in a reckless plan...and hope that he and all of his friends make it through alive.

I'm trying to remember the last time I've read about a miserable low-down character turning good but McMann has done it masterfully. My son told me this was his favorite book in the series because of one particular character--a new to the series and unassuming character-- and now I know why. Wow. Powerful. For a tween book no less. If you find a reason to read books for this age, pick up this series. It's breathtaking.

MeganAnn What is the first book in the series? 7y
Texreader @MeganAnn It is simply called The Unwanteds and the rest start with "The Island of...". Here's the first: 7y
MeganAnn @Texreader thank you!! Adding this to my TBR list to read with my son 7y
Texreader @MeganAnn Enjoy! If you can't tell I ❤️ these books. I actually bought the boxed set at the suggestion of a Litten for my son's birthday and then my son highly encouraged me to read them, plopping the pile by my bedside. There are 7 in total. 7y
julesG Now I have to find out whether it's available in German and, if so, whether our library has it in stock. Thanks for the review. 7y

On to Book 6!

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Ooh! I haven't thought about Lisa McMann in ages! I adored her Wake trilogy... the cover of this is very striking! How's the story? 7y
Texreader @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Terrific! Even though it's for tweens I'm loving it! Is Wake her adult series? I'm going to have to look for it if so. 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Older teens? It was written in quite a stark style (which I loved) and was about a girl who fell into other people's dreams/nightmares- I can't quite remember what happened - but something that required investigating. 7y
Texreader @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Thanks! I'll check it out. 7y
