pickI liked this much better than its predecessor â€Die Spur der Bücher“. It had more book magic (Bibliomantic) and the story was easier to follow.
Like in â€Die Seiten der Welt“ I hugely loved all the literary and/or bookish details Kai Meyer wove in to make his universe lively.
In the end it‘s like he himself says: It‘s possible to read both prequels independently from the original trilogy as they are set 130 years earlier and have new protagonists.
“Also in daylight he looked as if a remain of night would constantly follow him. A faint idea of darkness was attached to him.†(p. 273)

Oh, how I love Kai Meyer‘s ideas around this series (this one has its appearance on p. 135) and his worldbuilding.

But I better revise the essentials of â€Die Seiten der Welt“ before I start this one. Which even though it‘s a prequel feels a pity to me because in my humble opinion Meyer did no good job in the prequel‘s first part when the reader loses overview or feels like doing so because all the important details left her or his brain two years after having read the original trilogy.
Yeah, you remember correctly, I was absolutely no fan of â€Die Spur der Bücher“ but I continue with its second part tomorrow because
• I really hope I like it better and that it doesn‘t ruin the whole world of â€Die Seiten der Welt“ for me.
• it belongs to â€Die Seiten der Welt“, so it‘s kind of a question of completion.
When you think the prequel of a series (â€Die Seiten der Welt“ ?) you liked went from being on hold in your library right to “Now available for youâ€, you of course borrow it immediately – only to then realise that _it_is_ the prequel but the _second_ part of the prequel. The _first_part_ of the prequel is â€Die Spur der Bücher“.
