In the Spider's House
In the Spider's House | Sarah Diamond
2 posts | 1 read | 6 to read
Mired in a dead-end job, and with a grand total of zero ideas for a second novel, Anna is delighted when her husband’s employer requires that they relocate to a small village in Dorset. Maybe the move will jump-start…something. At first, it does, as Anna becomes absorbed in researching local history. Quaint little Abbots Newton, the town that time forgot, turns out to have been home to a notorious murderess from back in the 60s. In fact, the murderess lived in Anna’s new house. In fact…well, there’s no use borrowing trouble, is there? Not when trouble keeps turning up on Anna’s doorstep, and her shiny new research project – purely for the novel, she swears! – is looking more and more like obsession.

Novelist Anna goes with her husband to live in an idyllic Dorset village, only to discover that the previous occupant of her dream home was notorious child murderer Rebecca Fisher. Intrigued, Anna begins to delve into the decades-old Fisher case, with the idea that it might provide the basis for a second novel. But someone doesn't approve of her investigations...
Well-written and creepy in an understated sort of way, till the dramatic climax.

Ireadkidlit Understated creepy is what I need in my day—especially when I‘m going to get a new library card in my new town today! Thank you for the perfect book tease 😄 5y
Minervasbutler @Ireadkidlit Hope you enjoy it! It's also published as The Spider's House, somewhat confusingly... 5y

Call me a pedant or whatever but a little piece of me dies inside when I see a published author make this mistake ;)
