Happy Fourth of July to anyone celebrating! I definitely am-- this is the first three-day weekend I've had in months! I've been taking advantage of it by finishing some books I've been working through slowly. This collection of Cranky Ladies is heavy on the world history but somewhat of a letdown as far as narrative-- I wanted something closer to Almost Famous Women. Still, interesting figures and pretty good representation, overall.

Loose-leaf Links is a feature where I gather together the interesting bits and pieces on sci-fi and fantasy I've come across and share them with you over tea.

I'm off at Conflux12 today & have convention tips from Gail Carriger and Laura Goodin. There are a number of great publishing opportunities currently open. And FableCroft Publishing have announced an indefinite hiatus. A sad loss

This anthology is such a gem. Cranky Ladies celebrates 22 women who challenged conventional wisdom about appropriate female behavior, from the ancient world to the 20th century. Some are iconic, while others all but forgotten by history. Sometimes you have to break the rules before they break you.
