Personally, I don‘t know why we teach kids to use “context clues” instead of a dictionary. It never works except for the in the obvious examples concocted for worksheets.
For example, today I leaned, despite DECADES of context clues from y‘all Christians, that “manger” does NOT mean “barn.”
