These poems use the story of Ethernan, a 7th century Irish missionary who retreated to the Caiplie Caves on the eastern coast of Scotland to consider life as a hermit, as their jumping off point. But the poet does not merely put herself in his shoes, but rather thinks about our current situation in relation to his and provides a deeply ambitious meditation on contemporary life.
