Gregory Scofield‘s memoir, written when he was only 33, outlines his struggles with intergenerational trauma and with the internalized self-loathing he‘s experienced as a gay Métis man. I wasn‘t prepared for how hard it hit me; for the sheer depth of feeling, or for Scofield‘s ability to make the specific feel universal. I highly recommend it in its own right and as a successor/cognate text to Maria Campbell‘s HALF-BREED.
