GingerAntics @TheBookHippie right?! The first time I ever saw video of an air raid drill in a school, I looked right at my mother and said “are those desks bomb proof? What‘s the point of that?” 🤣😂🤣 Someone finally gave me an answer, but it wasn‘t very nice. He said it wasn‘t really to protect kids, it was so they would know exactly where to find the bodies. Luckily Russia never bombed a school. 4y

GingerAntics @thebookhippie 🤦🏼♀️ ugh no, I can just imagine. We ended up having a tornado drill on a day we had to wear skirts, so all the boys had to go against the walls, then the girls had to go behind them so they couldn‘t look up our skirts. That was bad enough. Somehow, in the middle of a weather emergency, we were supposed to remember to line up properly if it was a skirt day. 🤦🏼♀️ 4y

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I was born late im 1979 so I'm very aware of long ago it technically is but it feels closer than that. I think being child-free skews my view on time. I have a hard time staying my head around the fact that I know a few 40 year old grandmas. I still don't feel like an adult. @GingerAntics That's a grim reason to get under the desks. 😬 4y

GingerAntics @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick yeah, I‘ve often wondered what sort of effect that had on those poor kids. The videos always show these smiling kids, but I don‘t remember anyone smiling during tornado drills in the basement and those are far less deadly than a bomb. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics I think showing us the nuclear bomb videos with skin melting were worse -it was all bad -the fear of Russia was huge -yet these same people who had childhoods like that support a president in bed with Russia 🤦🏽♀️ 4y
GingerAntics I seriously do NOT get that one bit. I didn‘t know their were videos. Ugh. That just sounds gross and terrible. I suppose it‘s no more or less damaging then lockdown drills now. 4y

TheBookHippie @GingerAntics serious mind fuck so imagine a lot of our dads were in or served in Vietnam and we had this going on too, during and after we just breath a bit from the war ending in 1975 and AIDS hits when we go to college 🤯 the wall didn‘t come down or end the Cold War until I was out of college and a parent . GingerAntics Geeze, it‘s always something. For my generation it was Waco, then Columbine, then 9/11, then the war...that‘s still the war...our bright spot was Obama, and now we have this. Life is a bloody rollercoaster. Man I hate rollercoasters. 4y
