The Poor Clare
The Poor Clare | Elizabeth Gaskell
2 posts | 3 read | 8 to read
As a writer, Elizabeth Gaskell often sought to cast light on the stark differences between social classes in the Victorian era. But in the remarkable novella "The Poor Clare," she takes issues of class, socioeconomic status, and religious differences out of the drawing room and embeds them in a spine-tingling tale of gothic suspense.

Well this was an interesting and dark gothic novella with a healthy dose of social commentary. I am glad to have read another story by Gaskell that I thoroughly enjoyed.

PurpleyPumpkin I have a number of her books that I haven't yet read. Will have to rectify that over the holidays! 8y
