so-so
A difficult read, not only because it is a tragic memoir of addiction and loss, but also because Magee structures it such that his recovery is triumphant and to do so he spends most of the book showing exactly how selfish his actions were. There's honor in that level of honesty, surely, but it can be hard to read about someone who is simultaneously grandiose, downtrodden, and holier-than-thou.
