Down, Down the Mountain | 
pickDown, Down the Mountain is a fiction book by Ellis Credle. It was published in 1932. It is about two children who wanted to have their own pairs of shoes. They go to granny who tells them to grow turnips. When the turnips are grown, the children go down the mountain to try to sell them for shoes. This book has won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award.
pickDown, Down the Mountain by Ellis Credle is one of my favorite reads for the classroom. It was written 1934, and is still holds such a great book for children from Appalachian backgrounds. Hank and Hetty need new shoes, but their family has no money so they have to plant turnips to sell to get money to buy new shoes. This book has won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award. Great to read for children!
