Pickpick

I recently finished two delightful magical realism books, and it dawned on me that I could write the same review for each. Both were lighthearted feel-good reads, had characters that I could be friends with, and featured main characters who were trying to leave their past behind and begin to live in the present, trust themselves, and look forward. The Coffee Shop of Curiosities was for my book club. Lost Lake was for July #FictionalTraveler #Water

I‘m trying to read this very slowly because I‘m sad it‘s all about to end and I absolutely love Alexia. I want more of her and her companions, not her daughter (though she is hysterical as a toddler). 😢🐺🧛🏻‍♂️☂️
I caught myself laughing out loud twice during lunch at my desk.

Larkken Alexia is more fun than her daughter for sure! Have you read the series that precedes this one? I love it too 3h

Manga + kitty tether time. (He mostly left the ornamental grass alone! Hurray!) This was a reread for me, thanks to another LFL last summer, and I sort of dismissed it back then because of the teacher-crush aspect. This time, I appreciated it as a story about a girl who adjusts to new circumstances. I hope the next two volumes focus more on that than on Suzume‘s emerging feelings for Shishio.

Panpan

I like sermons. I like novels. I did not like this.
I was going to give this a so-so rather than a pan, because I acknowledge that this is not my normal genre, but I have read enough Christian fiction to know that this is not a good example of it. Between some problematic views, the preachiness, the two-dimensional characters, the tell-don‘t-show writing style, and more, this is one of the most irritating books I‘ve read in a while.

#hashtagbrigade at this point in the story we are not reading fast enough!!! I have read ahead to tomorrow‘s ch 45 and I am losing my shit over how callous and self centred Cynthia is - like every chapter SHE IS WORSE! If Molly ends up dead because of the usual Victorian nonsense re:there no coming back from trial and tribulations and that narcissist ( #notclare) and her soul sucking offspring live on I will implode FFS🤬

dabbe OMG, I'm scared to read further! I think I'll lose my shit, too! 😮‍💨 4h
mcctrish @dabbe at the least we need 2 chapters a day - I can‘t live like this 4h

Mehso-so

This book ended up being a very fast read. The margins were ridiculously wide. It probably would have been cut in half in pages if they had done normal margins. Anyway it was a pretty blah book for me. I'll not be continuing the series.
