The cover suggests this is about drug addiction but, it was only a small part of the story and in no way the main focus. The main focus is the trial which is what is presently going on…and through the course of the trial, we get flashbacks of what led her to be on trial for manslaughter. Emotionally this could‘ve had a little more depth to it…but otherwise, this was a solid YA legal thriller showcasing the need to fit in with one's peers.

It‘s been so hard for me to focus on anything lately but this book helped with a quick pick me up. Usually during Halloween I spend all my time celebrating with knotts or Halloween horror nights, and I often forget to read!

This is a story that should be wrought w/emotions but it felt surface level. It lacked a depth. It was told almost clinically, &parts where I should have been indignant or crying, I just felt like I was reading a report of events.

Emily is being tried for manslaughter of a family of 4 after leaving the stove on when she babysat. The whole trial was extremely messy &Emily‘s sole character trait is that she wants to be friends with a popular girl.
