pickFinally finished this over the weekend. I‘ve been so busy lately it‘s been hard to make any headway. Main character is a little naive, but mostly likeable. The food descriptions and scenes were described well, but I did find it odd that she kept wanting to paint things. No real passion for this is ever mentioned until the very end, so why keep referencing it throughout? Overall, I found it a simple read without any surprises.
so-soMy book club will soon discuss this engaging listen! Well-performed and set across England in 1932, Stella has something to prove with writing her second book. After dismal sales with her first biography, her publisher suggests she write a history of food in England. Still fresh in her grief of losing her mother, and navigating her own relationships, this does eventually get there. Stella‘s choices are less than stellar but her arc is satisfying.
pickThe last book I finished in 2023! I love food fiction and in this case, the main character is an author tasked with writing a history of English cooking. I loved all of the food, cooking, and recipes, and I really loved the historical info included about the English recipes. But the MC had a lot going on, and I got bored with all of the different dramas in her life. I struggled with a lot of the food, people, places, and pop culture references👇🏻

My goal will be to read 20 chapters in the tagged book which will bring me to 3/4 thru it. (Actually, I‘d really love to finish it but having a goal is fun.) This is a NetGalley read that I‘m a little late on finishing. I‘m trudging thru it, likely because I‘ve been so busy at work and home lately. I tend to love books about food or cooking, so hoping this one will pick up for me.
