I really enjoyed the first in series, and I must say that I think this one was even better. I think often the first book in establishing a series can be a bit tedious with all the details, backstories, etc. But both books have been entertaining and engrossing and not the least bit tedious. This finds Catriona struggling as she has lost her reporter job and is coming to terms with her new engagement. She throws herself into charitable work 🔻

robinb assisting a nurse friend with her work in a medical dispensary for the less fortunate. When a body is found by some local impoverished children, she feels compelled to look into it...which of course is what Inspector Marlowe is doing.
Twists and turns and a bit of a surprise villain, this book provided a deeper dive into characters, and Duke's descriptions of the place setting are very vivid and detailed. I was left with a bewildering 🔻

robinb view of a turn in Catriona's character at the end of the first book, but it was fleshed out and resolved here. Both Catriona and Marlowe are complicated characters who have struggles to overcome, and I look forward to watching them do just that.

Well done and hope to see more soon. 4.25/5⭐️

CoverToCoverGirl I‘m of the same opinion as you. First books are what draw you in but they usually end up being the ones I like the least for those very reasons you mentioned. 2w
robinb @CoverToCoverGirl Yes! There‘s just so much to tackle that it gets a bit much at times. I‘m like “let‘s get on with it already”. 😂 2w
