To Clutch a Razor
To Clutch a Razor | Veronica Roth
3 posts | 3 read
#1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth pulls from Slavic folklore to explore family, duty, and what it means to be a monster in this sequel to the USA Today bestselling When Among Crows A funeral. A heist. A mission born of desperation. When someone in Dymitr's family dies, he's called back home for the Empty Night, a funeral rite intended to keep evil at bay. The secret Dymitr is keeping from them makes returning home downright dangerous, but if he wants to get his hands on a book of curses that might appease Baba Jaga's blood lust, he has no choice. And when that same funeral brings Niko, a ferocious creature of legend, to town for his own bloody purposes, Dymitr's charade becomes impossible to maintain. Family gatherings can be brutal. Dymitr's might just be fatal.

Dymitr and Ala head to Dymitr‘s family home in Poland both for a funeral and to find something to pay Baba Jaga back for her help. There, they cross paths with Niko who is in town for his own mission: kill one of the most dangerous Knights alive.

Such an amazing sequel to When Among Crows, I cannot wait to see where Roth takes this trio next.

Na zdrowie!

5/5

Niko and Dymitr's paths cross again as they find themselves in the same town in Poland. Dymitr and Ala are using a family funeral as an opportunity to reclaim Dymitr's book of curses, while Niko is using the same opportunity to hunt a knight. They all have to survive being monsters among monster hunters.

I loved the themes about family, change, and atonement, and I loved all the Polish folklore.

A spectacular follow-up to When Among Crows. Dymitr returns to Poland with Ala, hoping to hide his feelings and true nature from his Knight family, but when he realizes Niko is in his hometown too--and there to hunt--that all goes out the window. Roth captures Dymitr's conflicted feelings wonderfully and seems to be setting up the potential for many many more books which I for one am thrilled about.

Meshell1313 I can‘t wait for this release- it‘s not coming out till Sept! 😩 5mo
