Ben Alderson's books are a palate, guilty pleasure read so picking up his latest queer, gothic novel version that mixes Shirley Jackson with The Fall of the House of Usher was right up my alley. Unfortunately, the sporadic storytelling, lack of cohesive storytelling, and much needed editing fell short that had plenty of potential for showcasing repressed desires, identity, and gay drama. In short, it was meh.
