Colm Tóibín is one of my favorite authors. This book is more of a novella and is being republished as a stand alone after an original publication in Mothers and sons (2006). A very sad but emotionally restrained story of loss and grief. It‘s the kind of story that reflects Colm‘s brilliant writing style and ability to capture the human experience. The author‘s afterword was really interesting and delves into the history and process behind it
