#travelthroughreading and this time I went to #sarajevo. This story is beautifully heartbreaking. Seriously, have Kleenex handy. This tells of the war that ravaged this county. The characters, the city, all come to amazing life in this book. Truly one that leaves you with a book hangover. #springreading

I have others, many already posted. Kulin is from Turkey... The title comes from the mortar shell impact craters in Sarajevo that where then filled with a red pigment creating these 'roses'.

She has done everything correct just as is expected of her until she meets Stefan who she unexpectedly fall in love with. The history of the Balkans and specifically the Bosnian War is "genre kryptonite" for me, so it's not too shocking that this book is ringing all my bells. Following the main character, Nimeta, you get a journalist's perspective of events as they unfold and a greater understanding of the cultural and political forces that led to the conflict with all its complications.
