The Gathering Storm | Kate Elliott

We finally had a low-smoke, no-rain day, so I got to have my ride along the Harte Trail! I also stopped off for a couple of reading breaks: one on a bench a little ways past where this photo was taken and one at Ikea with a free coffee.

I‘m now about 160 pages from the end of THE GATHERING STORM and I‘d love to finish it tonight, but I‘ve got other stuff to do this evening so I don‘t think it‘ll be possible. Tomorrow, then.

Tamra Smoke has been terrible! Glad you are getting a break - it‘s a bit better here too. 1w
xicanti @Tamra the fires were just a little north of here on Monday and the smoke was so thick I couldn‘t clearly see across a small field. Thankfully the wind and rain helped a lot. 1w

I finally have a way to read the sixth book in Kate Elliott‘s Crown of Stars series (NO ONE gets rid of that book—I‘ve searched for years—and the ebook is $24, but the audio‘s on Hoopla), so here I am, tackling the fifth volume at long last. It pushes 1000 pages so I‘ve made it my in-between read. I‘m enjoying it so much I‘ll probably upgrade it to primary when I‘m a little closer to the end.

I made it to the Friends of the Library Book Sale after all, and I did very well! $12 got me the one-volume edition of MY BROTHER‘S HUSBAND, my own copy of FIFTEEN DOGS (which I just reread two days ago via the library), a fancy book cover, and, at long last, the next book I need to finallyfinallyfinally finish Kate Elliott‘s A Crown of Stars series.

I‘m happy. It was totally worth taking a Readathon break. #deweyoct #readathon

I took a loooong bike ride to my favourite bookstore, and it paid off: he had two books from my wishlist! I‘m especially glad I found CROWN OF STARS. Now I just need to track down the two ahead of it so I can finally finish the series.

I also found a quilt kit at a nearby thrift store. The puppy looks so much like Daisy that I HAD to get it to sew up for her mom.

I got my free sandwich today (quarter pounder BLT this time; the veggies and bacon were good, but the beef lacked flavour) and left the super crowded restaurant soon as it was in my belly. I leaned up against the wall by the bike rack and read another chunk of CHILD OF FLAME while I drank my coffee. I really am in the homestretch now. If I stick with it, I‘ll be able to finish it by the end of the month.

I headed back into CHILD OF FLAME during the Readathon, and it fits my current reading mood so well that there‘s a good chance I‘ll keep going after I finish Part III. Make it my primary read instead of an in-betweener. Some weeks, you just need a really fat book with great characters and cool (read: heartrending) worldbuilding.

Casey became a burrito this morning on account of it being super cold, while I dug into another volume of Kate Elliott‘s Crown of Stars. This is the longest one yet at 913 pages. I haven‘t decided if I‘ll read it straight through or take a break after each segment.

Todays beer is a Landshark Lager from Margarita International Brewing Co. It‘s a bit thinner than most of what I drink, but I think it should go down pretty easy.

I could probably finish THE BURNING STONE tonight, but I haven‘t found it as gripping as the first two. (Maybe because it‘s 200 pages longer.) I‘m deeply invested in Liath and Alain, but I‘m also frustrated with the large number of characters who use religion to deny others‘ humanity.

I‘m finally halfway through THE BURNING STONE! I‘d love to finish it by the end of the year, but I can‘t seem to just sit and READ today. Poop. Hopefully I can make up some ground over the next few days.

Then I ate soup and dove back into THE BURNING STONE. I really want to wallow in it this afternoon. Kate Elliott‘s consideration of power and privilege has got me hooked but good.
