When I first read Windows my first thought was how perfect of a story it would be to read to a child before bed! The picture book made me feel safe.

Pickpick

Windows is a lovely children's picture book written by Julia Denos and illustrated by E. B. Goodale. This book is about heading out for a walk right before night time and experiencing all of the life around you. The illustrations in this book are very detailed and full of vibrant colors. Windows is a book that encourages children to find their own stories in the pictures.

I would like to read this to my class because it is a book that the children will be able to relate to. They could experience going on a walk at dusk in their lives with their dog, I know I have. Looking at the images took me back to COVID when I would take my dog for walks when I got home from work.

Mehso-so

Windows by Julia Denos is a picture book that was published in 2017. In this charming tribute to fall nights, exploring your neighborhood, and returning home, a child takes his dog for a walk at twilight and captures glimpses of the life around him. Everything in the story is dark beside the windows of people's homes and the sunset sky. This draws the reader's attention in to the theme of the short story.

This book is a good jumping off point for a creative writing assignment. Students could be asked to write about or draw a picture of what someone might see if they looked through their window.

Pickpick

This book uses its illustrations of figures in windows to show the child glimpses into the worlds of others. The outside world is drawn with dark colors and still lines, but inside the windows is bright, with motion and life. The books illustrations encourages the reader to appreciate life and look into others, both literally and metaphorically.
