4.5 ⭐ Mara is the last sister in a royal family. Both of her older sisters have had to marry a prince in a neighboring kingdom for protection of their kingdom. Mara is sent to a nunnery, not to become a nun but to be protected. To make sure she has no children, takes no husband , and is there in case the prince needs a third wife. Mara spends 15 years in the nunnery living her life, waiting for something. Her first sister died

LibrarianRyan within a few months of marrying the prince. Her second sister has been married to the prince for a very long time. They‘ve had one child, who unfortunately dies at approximately the age of 10 from the plague. It‘s at this funeral that Mara discovers her sister is being abused by the prince and determines she‘s going to get even. She is going to kill the prince. However, this is not an easy task as in this world fairy godmothers exist, and the 11h
LibrarianRyan princes fairy godmother has blessed him that no magic or other harm can come to him. Mara sets out on her to complete three impossible tasks: one to make a cape of nettles and wear it, two bring bones back to life, and three to capture moonlight in a jar. And it‘s only once she‘s done that the bone wife can help her break the blessing to kill the prince. This review is in sequential order, however the book is not. The book starts as Mara is 11h
LibrarianRyan creating her bone dog. Of her weaving the bones together with wire, hoping against hope that she can get this pile of marrow to create life. Throughout the book you‘re going backwards and forward in time both with what happened tomorrow and what happened to her family. This book is phenomenal. The storytelling, the writing, the overall what‘s going on. The reader is glued from the first sentence until the very end of the book. This will not be my 11h
LibrarianRyan my first T Kingfisher and I see why she has a devoted following. It‘s only recently that I have learned that Kingfisher is a pseudonym for Ursula Vernon. Ursula Vernon writes fabulous children‘s books. She‘s known for the Dragonbreath, series, and other fully illustrated kids‘ books. I have read and loved those books in the past so it makes sense that since that I would love her other works. This book was so good. The author is now on my auto buy 11h
TheBookHippie Oh!!! I did not know this was the same person either! 10h

I always loved the movie and didn‘t know it was based on a book. Once I discovered this, I borrowed the audio version from Borrowbox with my library card.

This was one of the best audio books I have ever listened to. There was a main narrator, and every character had their own voice. The story was as magical as I remember. It is a perfect modern fairy tale that will be loved for many years to come.

3.5/5🌟 — I don‘t feel like this book stood up to the strong plotlines that book 1 & 2 had. Book 1 was a unique retelling of Beauty & the Beast, while book 2 had fantastic character development & focused solely on Grey. This 3rd book meanwhile was mostly talking & plotting, then when it came for the final battle I found it lacking. It was predictable & I wish a different character had dealt the killing blow. But I did enjoy this series as a whole.

A Curse For True Love | Stephanie Garber
Mehso-so

Star-crossed lovers at its finest! However, very little interaction between the love pair.
The villains felt flat.
The narrative style again was again top of "once upon a time".
I expected so much more from the epilogue- after all Jacks and Evangeline have been through!

I finished this but by the end I could have cared less if Red found her sister. A retelling of Little Red Riding hood. The woods that attacked and attacked got to me by the ending…did anyone like this out there?

This evening‘s reading. I love this explanation of why one character is generally disliked: “ … never smiled unless there was some thing to smile at.” Makes sense to me! I‘ve spent most of my life being told I should smile more. Now that I‘m older, it doesn‘t happen that much — thank goodness.

CBee Oh my gosh, me too! Like, I‘ll smile when there‘s something to smile about - thank goodness I don‘t hear it much anymore 🤦‍♀️ 3d
KathyWheeler @CBee I always hated it when people said that to me. I felt like I would look if I walked around smiling all the time! 3d
Ruthiella I used to waitress and I got that ALL THE TIME! 3d

KathyWheeler @Ruthiella I don‘t understand the need to say that to people. For all they know, something truly awful could‘ve happened to you that day. 3d
CBee @KathyWheeler I did too. I don‘t even know who does that. Your face would start to hurt 😂😂 3d
KathyWheeler @CBee Yes! It would. 2d
