This is one of those times where the cover of the book and the tone of the book are way off.
This is a complicated story of fifth grader Mia, a Chinese immigrant, and her parents. This is a fantastic middle-grade read about immigration, poverty, racism, friendship, community and so much more.
I absolutely loved this story!

Peddler410 I absolutely loved this story as well. I read it aloud to my 4th grader who is in a Chinese Immersion program at her school. It opened up so many great conversations! 6y
BookInMyHands @Peddler410 Wow, what a great opportunity for your kiddo, and I love that this story led to more conversations. This might be my favorite middle-grade read for this year. 6y
