This nonfiction book explains how a radio broadcast called The War of the Worlds created fake panic and turned into the 1938 invasion of America. There are tons of firsthand accounts included in this book. These include photographs, historical documents, and drawings from the time period. There quotes from important people as well as captions depicting importance. It is very thorough and provides a timeline of events.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Anonymous,” AKA a Utah woman named Beatrice Sparks, becomes famous for essentially fabricating hot-button, “diaries” of troubled young people. Did she help define the YA genre? Sure. But that doesn‘t mean her tactics weren‘t problematic. Had the author and publishers been honest, would we still be talking about this? Had we known they were indeed fiction from the onset, would anyone care?

BarbaraBB I read one by a drug addicted girl in my teens. I loved it and only discovered a few years ago they were fake 1mo
britt_brooke @BarbaraBB How‘d it make you feel finding out it was fake? 1mo
AlaMich Go Ask Alice had a huge impact on me when I read it as a teen, and not in a good way. So I was extremely pissed to learn that it wasn‘t even true. 1mo
britt_brooke @AlaMich So frustrating!! 1mo
