The Water Dancer: A Novel | Ta-Nehisi Coates
post image

They knew our names and they knew our parents. But they did not know us, because not knowing was essential to their power. To sell a child right from under his mother, you must know that mother only in the thinnest way possible. To strip a man down, condemn him to be beaten, flayed alive, then anointed with salt water, you cannot feel him the way you feel your own. ~Ta-Nehisi Coates The Water Dancer

ljuliel Is this your book club ? You have a nice sized group ! And which one are you ? I can never see those tiny little photos beside people‘s names in here. 4d
BeaG @ljuliel Yes, this is the book club I'm in. I'm front row black sweatshirt, face cut off, LOL. We had 10 members and one lady moved to another state. We are a closed group, so we don't accept new members, but we may add one person since someone moved. We want yo stay at 10 always. 4d

ljuliel That sounds like a good number to stick with. If you had too many , everyone might not get a chance to talk. Do you all live in the same neighborhood, or use the same library , or how‘d you all originally meet up ? And how long has your group been together ? Oh....and how do you choose new books ? I hope I‘m not bugging you with all these questions. 4d
sharread Beautiful picture love all the smiles. 4d
BeaG @sharread Thanks! We really have a good time at every meeting. 3d
BeaG @ljuliel You are not bothering me with the questions. We are from the same town. It started with 5 of the ladies in the group, the 2 on the sofa with me and the 3 behind me. I have been in ir for about 4 years now. The other 2 ladies have been in it 2 or 3 years now. We rotate turns from a list that we have and each person host at their home or restaurant of their choice. I will host the next one. We each bring a dish and eat first. 3d
BeaG @ljuliel The host choose the book. We all have different genes that we favor so that makes it more interesting. 3d
ljuliel It sounds great . I bet you all have lots of fun. Thanks for answering my questions. 3d
BeaG @ljuliel You're welcome. We do have fun. 3d

Yessssss! I loved it. It started off great and then it kinda got slow before it picked back up. I love fantasy so the parts that incorporated them was a great addition in my opinion. Thought provoking. It took me a few weeks to read, but I loved it.

I don't know how I feel about this book. It's a good read. Amber is annoying and messed up in the head. I was rooting for Daphne. I also got sick of the name dropping off the name brands and prices of each. We get it, they were wealthy.
