Last post! And this is marked spoiler in case you are attending his event. If so, keep scrolling so you will be just as surprised!

Stephen read a brand new letter from Charlie that is featured in his 20th year edition of Perks of Being a Wallflower... and there was not a dry eye in the house. If Perks moved you, helped you, got you through a bad time, etc., find yourself the new edition and see what Charlie has to say. And bring a tissue.

Also, just to fan girl further. I was sitting in front of his friends from high school who all have small mentions in his books! He used an actual girls last name in Imaginary Friend simply because he loves the sound of it (she got an applaud.) And the “notorious drunk” was also in attendance 😂 They were all so kind and supportive of him; it melted my heart a little.

Hooked_on_books That‘s awesome! Sounds like you had a great time. I‘ve loved the author talks I‘ve been lucky enough to attend. 2mo

If all goes smoothly with my dentist appointment tomorrow, I‘ll be able to attend my first ever book signing and meet Stephen Chbosky! I‘m absolutely fangirling already... what‘s your favorite question to ask an author?! Any tips on attending a book signing??

That-Bookish-Hiker He‘ll be in Portland next Saturday and I‘m so excited too! Hope you have a great time! I don‘t ask the authors any questions. When I meet them I just say “thank you for writing these books.” 2mo
Stephuhhnieee @That-Bookish-Hiker So fun!! Thanks! I hope you have a great time, too! And I like that! I don‘t want to be obnoxious or anything... A thank you is straight to the point, yeah? I‘ll go with that! I appreciate it!!! 2mo
Hooked_on_books I‘ve learned good etiquette is to place a post-it on the title page with the name you want them to write written clearly on it. This way they already know the spelling, etc and you can use your time with them to talk about more important stuff! 2mo

Yay! I love a good tote bag! I also picked the tagged book. Something about children bursting into flames when mad just tickled my dark humor bone 😂 Couldn‘t pass it up!

LiteraryinLititz I loved Kevin Wilson‘s previous 2 novels and I‘m excited about this one! 2mo
Stephuhhnieee @LiteraryinLititz Can‘t say I‘ve read or heard of them! Will definitely look into 😬 Are they humor novels as well? 2mo
LiteraryinLititz @Stephuhhnieee They are quirky and odd but not humor, per se. Family Fang and 2mo
LiteraryinLititz They all seem to be different explorations of the family unit. What makes a family, the relationships between children and parents, siblings, etc. Sounds like his latest is about that too, to some extent. 2mo

I do not have a favorite author. Not because I have so many that I can't pick just one; just that I do not have *one specific* author of whom I follow so I can read all of their work. Is that taboo? I feel like everyone has a favorite author...

RaimeyGallant I feel the same about favorites generally. 3mo
TheEllieMo I don‘t have a favourite author, I don‘t have a favourite genre. I don‘t really have a favourite anything. 3mo
Stephuhhnieee @TheEllieMo @RaimeyGallant Good to know I‘m not alone! Recently been seeing a lot (and have been asked a lot) of posts around the internet on favorite authors.... I felt entirely out of the loop haha 3mo
Hooked_on_books I definitely have authors who I will look for and be excited when their books come out, but there‘s no way I could name one favorite. Nor would I want to try. 3mo

13 Reasons Why | Jay Asher
post image

I devoured this in high-school; and put it on my then list of top reads, but I haven‘t read it since. I watched season one of the Netflix show when it came out, and was shaken by the rawness of it. I didn‘t hate the show, but did feel strongly for those who may have watched it and found themselves worse off. I‘m curious to see how I‘ll perceive the book now that I‘m older, would say I‘m in a better mental state, and have a child of my own.

IamIamIam I read this a few years ago, in my late 30s, and I was very impressed with the level of responsibility that was placed on all the secondary characters and that very little attention was paid to the actual suicide aspect of the main character. I didn't watch the series because I thought the sensationalizing of the suicide took away from the story. Her story focuses on accountability, not the drama of suicide. 3mo
mom2bugnbee @IamIamIam EXACTLY. I have two girls in HS & also read this a few years back. I thought then, & I think now, that it should be HS required reading. My now HS senior (read it as a frosh or soph) boycotted the show b/c she heard enough to know that it missed the point of the book. And now it's just become a whodunit in later seasons. Nothing wrong with a whodunit, but don't claim that it's a retelling of the book. 3mo
Stephuhhnieee @IamIamIam I agree. Up until now, as I realize they changed the way she committed her suicide was changed in the show (which made it more dramatic because that scene was hard to watch) I thought they were doing a great job of showing the accountability of the secondary characters. I personally thought it would have been a good tool for a parent or teacher to sit and watch with someone younger and point out those accountabilities... 3mo
See All 11 Comments
Stephuhhnieee @IamIamIam And to show the warning signs of someone asking for help... because those are missed a lot of the time. But I‘m starting to feel different as I wrap the audiobook up. I‘m still a fan, but my views on the show have changed. They could‘ve done better. Should have done better. 3mo
Stephuhhnieee @mom2bugnbee I refuse to watch the following seasons. They have nothing to do with the book aside from giving viewers a very Hollywood “what would happen after.” I feel like the point of the book was there, but was lost the moment they aired the episode of her committing. Which as @IamIamIam said sensationalizes it. Also, more people were mad at the secondary characters for being so ignorant and it didn‘t seem to click.... 3mo
Stephuhhnieee @mom2bugnbee didn‘t seem to click that those were the lessons the producers wanted people learn. It shouldn‘t of been a tv show, yet. It came before it‘s time and needed more thought on the production of it. 3mo
LibrarianRyan Not gonna lie, I love the book, and I like the TV show, and am about to complete season 3. The book is all about Clay experiencing the tapes and making sense of what happens. He listens all in one night. I liked the TV show because you got to see what the side characters were thinking and feeling as they see others get the tapes. Why wouldn't person one just toss them. Why would they pass them on? You get that in the show as it takes Clay 3mo
LibrarianRyan Weeks to listen to them. And it shows how he does and does not want to know. His questioning of himself “what did I do“. You do not really get that in the book. 3mo
Stephuhhnieee @LibrarianRyan The tossing of the tapes crossed Clays mind in the book, but Hannah said she had an extra set that would be released publicly if the tapes didn‘t make it all the way around. (I think Tony has the extra set? Which is mentioned in the show.) But I agree that it is nice to get more view points from the rest of the characters involved. But I do feel things could‘ve been portrayed much differently now that I‘m rereading! 3mo
LibrarianRyan @Stephuhhnieee That's the other thing. Tony is just a mention in the books. An almost non-character. They expanded his role so much. And I actually liked it. 3mo
Stephuhhnieee @LibrarianRyan I agree! It was nice to know more about why Hannah trusted him and what he was up to while the tapes were being passed around. 3mo

Heeeey Litsy friends!

I am in need of some recommendations if you have them! I have THE pickiest 5 year old (going on six) eater this side of the East Coast. Does anyone have any books they recommend (other than the tagged title) to help with that? I‘m losing my marbles and she‘s becoming even more stubborn 😓

AkashaVampie Awww I'm sorry sweetie. I have 2 picky eaters myself. I've never read any books like that, so cant help u there. My advice is take it day by day. My mentality for that is getting them to eat something is better than nothing. 3mo
Stephuhhnieee @AkashaVampie I appreciate it! That‘s what I‘ve been telling myself (and what her doctors have been telling me.) but there‘s only so many chicken nuggets and hot dogs in the world 😂 And as a person who has had lifelong weight issues and a family history of all sorts of things, I really just want her to live a healthier lifestyle. 3mo

Blaire I wish I had some helpful advice, I‘ve been lucky both my kids eat everything, but we‘re terrible sleepers and I read every sleep book out there. 😂😂😂 . LapReader I have 2 picky half Swedish step daughters who before I came along ate the same bland foods on repeat. My Thermomix is a god send. I blend all the veggies & disguise them in the foods they like e.g. Tacos, pasta etc. They have gone from thinking pepper crusted salmon is spicy to eating curry. They have no idea so keep it on the down low please 😂 My partner & I love food so we always talk about it in a positive way and commend them for trying. 3mo
Stephuhhnieee @Blaire I lucked out in the sleep department 😂😅 She sleeps more than I do. I think what‘s so frustrating is that all of the foods I try with her now are foods she devoured as a toddler; so I‘m just not getting it. Everyone says it‘s a phase.... but it‘s been two years now lol. I‘ll keep introducing! I appreciate the input!! 3mo
Stephuhhnieee @LiteraryinLititz Thank you!!!! Adding them to the list! 3mo
Stephuhhnieee @LapReader haha your secret is safe with me!! And that‘s honestly amazing! I need to do what you‘re doing for myself 😂 I love curry but can‘t handle it. Also had a field day in the children‘s education section 😂 The Titanic book may be more for me than her (there‘s a cd inside where you explore the titanic 😬😬😬)

IamIamIam I bought a Titanic book at the Scholastic book fair and I made it very clear that it was for me, not the kids!!! Lol, I mean, it's accessible to them but I'm the one with the obsession! 😂 Great haul, by the way! I loved 4mo
Stephuhhnieee @IamIamIam 😂😂😂Gotta love a good Titanic book!! And thanks!! Invisible Monsters was the first book in my cart 😬 I‘m excited for it! What I couldn‘t make out from the reviews on the back was whether it‘s just a dark story, or a dark humorous story? 4mo
IamIamIam It's both really, so the situation is dark and that makes the humor so dark it's black. Lol, I read it at least 10 years ago so it's a bit hazy but it was definitely my 2nd favorite, behind 4mo

As excited as I was to read this, it's falling short of the previous three books in my opinion; all in which I could NOT put down.
