1 - “Mercy!" cried Gandalf. "If the giving of knowledge is to be the cure of your inquisitiveness, I shall spend all the rest of my days in answering you. What more should you like to know?"

"The names of all the stars, and of all living things, and the whole history of Middle-Earth and Over-heave and of the Sundering Seas," laughed Pippin. "Of course! What less?”

Sometimes we need stories of people in a huge universe to focus on the small, everyday things that make us human.

If you like the stories of Festus traveling the universe in Startripper having fun adventures with new cultures, you should give the Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers a shot.

Fascinating world building, feel-good stories paired with serious stories with more intimate stakes than the whole universe.

#bookcast2019

rwmg I'm doing this backwards. Is liking Becky Chambers's books a reason to read Star Stripper. And can you link to the book please? I suspect googling it is asking for trouble. 5d
chaoticgoodhufflepuff @rwmg Startripper is a fun audio drama podcast. https://www.whisperforge.org/startripper This post is kind of supposed to work both ways as a recommendation. If you‘ve enjoyed one, I think you‘ll enjoy the other. I listen to a lot of podcasts and audiobooks at work, and I‘ve been sharing books that I felt pair up nicely with the podcasts. 5d

Pickpick

Rose Marshall is hitchhiking across the country, acting as a guide to those who die on the road, all while trying to keep ahead of the man who killed her.

Y'all I love ghost stories so much!

I loved how it felt like an exploration of how a story shifts and changes as it's told, while also building this amazing other world.

It felt a little disjointed at times, like tumblr posts collected together. But I will be picking up the sequel! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Clare-Dragonfly Oooh. I didn‘t really like the one Seanan McGuire book I read (first in the Toby Daye series) but this sounds so good… 7d

Back to work for two days after a five day vacation, and did I call in today to see if the mail volumes were low enough I could take a day off? Yes. Yes, I did.

On the positive side of the not-guilty-flavored variety, that means I am available to watch the nibling after they were sick earlier this morning, and my sister needs to work and do homework today.

Mehso-so

The new librarian in a small town library (in a lighthouse!) is swept into a mystery when her boss is accused of murder & 1st editions of Jane Austen novels are stolen.

I‘ll be frank, I‘m more fed up with love triangles than I thought I was. So that definitely shaded my enjoyment. And the culprit didn‘t really make sense to me when others felt better set up.

But I loved Bertie. And the image of books in an old lighthouse charmed me. 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑

SandyW If you're using Overdrive, go to holds. At the bottom of each book there are 3 options. You want "suspend hold." From there you have a drop down menu. If you are using Libby, go to your shelf and select holds. Then select "manage hold." At the next screen click I the word "active" and then select how long you'd like to suspend your hold. A fascinating look at the beginning of cattle wrangling in Hawaii and the three cowboys who travelled to Cheyenne, WY to compete in the US‘s most famous rodeo.
