This classic set is a must read for anyone who wants to understand why people still wave confederate flags and bemaon the Lost Cause. It is also a fabulous military history in its own right with detailed analysis of all the significant commanders in the Army of Northern Virginia down to brigade level.

Still one of my all-time favorites. Stood the test of time with 25 years between rereads. It is an American classic because it is so well done.
