A touching story, beautifully-written words and strong characters make this book a good pick for young adult reading. It explores the coming of age story of a gay boy with cultural background and context of America.
A tale of fate and fire. I really could not describe how amazing Yaa Gyasi‘s execution in this novel is. The characters came to life so real in its chapter, the interconnectedness of the stories is so flawlessly done and at the end, the sense of homegoing came true when fate brings the characters together. Definitely a must-read!
One of the best books I have read recently. The depiction of different first persons in different chapters gave an in-depth look to the characters‘ dilemma, sadness, joy, lies, secrets, and so much more.
A pretty straightforward personal and family affair surrounding the main character whom I wish could have been more firm after everything she‘s been thru. A catchy title to capture readers‘ attention but I am not sure if the story really brings the title home. Overall, easy read, fun in some parts but could have been more meaty in its storytelling.
