Close Enough for the Angels
Close Enough for the Angels | Paul Madonna
3 posts | 1 read
What does it mean to have a life guided by luck? ??
Emit Hopper was a one-hit wonder—twice. First as rock and roller in the 80's, then as an author in the 90's. Now it's twenty years later, and despite his desire to remain a simple laundromat owner, the limelight has found him once more. He meets Julia, a former chef who has abandoned her life to find ‘a new way in,’ and ignoring all the signs that say he’s doomed to repeat his past, he throws himself in with her. But when she disappears on a hike with two other women in Yosemite Valley, Emit finds himself propelled by a repetition far more powerful than he could have imagined. ??
From the artist and author of All Over Coffee and Everything is its own reward comes a beautiful, entertaining, and uniquely satisfying book about luck, love, and creativity. With his signature blend of drawing and storytelling, Paul Madonna takes us on a journey from the the jungles of Thailand to the streets of Tokyo to reveal a private world of inspiration otherwise unseen.
Close Enough for the Angels is a a mystery, a love story, and a metaphor. A story about art, creativity, and above all, luck—good, bad, and everything in between. With over one hundred lush and haunting drawings, this full-length, character driven story is a fresh and innovative reinvention of the illustrated novel.

Pickpick

So happy I finally get to review this book! Thanks @steverogers for letting me know that it's now in the db. This is Paul Madonna's first novel and it's a quirky, curious, wacky ride with insights into art and life, a clever page turning plot, and exquisite, moving, and meticulously detailed drawings. I'm thrilled with this development in Paul Madonna's work and I want more! Btw I think it's currently only available on iBooks.
