1648: Civil war is devastating England. The privileged world of Katherine Ferrers is crumbling under Cromwell's army and, as an orphaned heiress, she has no choice but to marry for the sake of family. But as her marriage turns into a prison and her fortune is forfeit, Katherine becomes increasingly desperate. So when she meets a man who shows her a way out, she seizes the chance. It is dangerous and brutal, and she knows if they're caught, there's only one way it can end... The mystery of Lady Katherine Ferrers, legendary highwaywoman, has captured the collective imagination of generations. Now, based on the real woman, the original 'Wicked Lady' is brought gloriously to life in this tale of infatuation, betrayal and survival.

Picked this out for #bookedintime and overall found it super frustrating - thwarted aristocrat down on her luck with a useless husband on the wrong side of the civil war becomes a highwaywoman sounds like it‘s going to be epic; but it just wasn‘t. Kate was enfuriating a lead with almost no personal growth, there was some cheating which I don‘t much love and a real surprising lack of action

Cuilin Yuck! I hate when the ingredients sound perfect but the execution is lacking. Hope you have better luck with the Romans. 🤞 9mo

For me this book was not as good as it could have been. So I was a bit dissapointed.
I think I expected a bit more action in a book about highwaymen/women

Pickpick

Admittedly, I'd have liked a bit more swashbuckling (I always want more swashbuckling), but this is a solid historical drama. Twists galore, great female characters, Civil War intrigue too.

Got this solely because it promises me a highwaywoman. We need more of those. Stand and deliver.
