One of the most outstanding graphic novels I've ever read in my entire life. Truly breathtaking.

Starting out with Belle Yang's FORGET SORROW for this spring readathon! Good luck, everyone :D
This is a NF gn that tells of the artist‘s family history, mostly the fates of her great-grandfather and his children, reflecting life under Japanese Imperialism and The Cultural Revolution. You also get a sense of tensions not only from straddling 2 cultures (Yang‘s father emigrated to the US in the late ‘50s and she herself was born in the US) but from the areas of having an ex-bf/abuser stalking her. A lot going on but b&w panels carry it all
Really interesting (and sad) story of life in communist China over several generations.
