Ruh-roh! What say you, #PemberLittens? Is it truly time for another S&S? I have so many questions! Will they show us a Willoughby/Brandon duel? Am I wrong to wish for a scene of Robert self-importantly shopping for a toothpick case? And most importantly, will we get an Edward Ferrars who is a true mopey sadsack, as God and Jane Austen intended?? 😜 Link to article in the comments. #JaneAustenThenAndNow

Ruthiella I just hope they do it “right”. Edward Ferrars/Hugh Grant aside, I like the Emma Thompson version. I can‘t watch the P&P with Kiera Knightly. I just want to comb everyone‘s hair in it. 4d
Andrea313 @Ruthiella OK but that comment about combing people's hair made me laugh. 🤣😂 I like the '95 and '05 versions of P&P, just as I like the Emma Thompson S&S as well as the 2008 mini-series. I think each of them got different things right and I can find something to love about them all. But I am NOT down with the modernized, anachronistic adaptations like the most recent version of Persuasion. No direct address to camera, please! 4d

bookishbitch I think I'm one of the few who likes something about all the film versions of her books. And I've been surprised at just how many there have been! (The black and white 1938 tv P&P started them all, I believe.) Love them or hate them, they all deviate from the books. 4d
nanuska_153 @Ruthiella 🤣🤣🤣 the hair 3d
nanuska_153 Now I really want the toothpick case scene! 😂 3d

Mehso-so

A slight little book, but enjoyable, giving an overview of the flowers, trees, fruits, and other natural elements mentioned in Jane's works, from the strawberries picked at Donwell to the trees which bear Marianne's beloved dead leaves to the hyacinth that Catherine Morland learns to love. The illustrations are sweet but simple, and so is the narrative- not much depth, but enough to whet the appetite if you wanted to learn more.

I believe all the other #PemberLittens must have snagged this amazing Jane Austen book scene, because it doesn‘t show up even if the cart has over $150! I‘ll be sure to check my local Bricks & MiniFigs store to get a set! #LEGO

TheBookHippie Yah! I assumed the same! 5d
Graciouswarriorprincess I got mine off Facebook Marketplace brand new for $20. 5d
CrowCAH @Graciouswarriorprincess that‘s a decent price! I‘ll check it out. 4d

#Pemberlittens I had issues with how Jonathan's dad the ORIGINAL Mr Darcy was portrayed. Because of that I gave it 3 stars on Goodreads. My full slightly spoilery Review in comments. 🎩

#JaneAustenThenAndNow

Crinoline_Laphroaig I don't read these books for the mystery. I read them for Juliet Tilney and Jonathan Darcy. Reasons for keeping them separated is very convoluted. Also I don't like that it's because of Mr Darcy! ⬇️

7d
Crinoline_Laphroaig Mr Darcy who had such character growth in Pride and Prejudice and married for love. There's no reason a man who ended up with Lydia as a sister in law and Mrs Bennet as a mother in law would disapprove of Juliet Tilney as a daughter in law. She not a golddigger. Her family is respectable and while not Pemberly rich, they are not poor. Juliet is smart, likeable but most importantly she truly cares for Jonathan. Mr Darcy wouldn't act this way.

7d
Crinoline_Laphroaig Will I continue to read this series? Absolutely! I'm waiting for the happy ever after. 7d
willaful Hmmm, wondering now if I should skip this one and just wait for the HEA. ;-) They've been going downhill for me. 7d

Pickpick

This was a fun graphic novel of Northanger Abbey.

Mid-month check in. Read any good Northanger Abbey retellings? Anything you've hated?

BarkingMadRead Also, I read Ghosted awhile back and it was really good! (edited) 2w
Andrea313 Northranger by Rex Ogle was lots of fun, and I'm enjoying Ghosted so far. But I did a re-read of the following and any silly charm it may have once held drastically faded into sheer stupidity: 2w
TheBookHippie Not yet 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ it‘s been a bit wild here. 2w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @TheBookHippie same! Last few days I read one graphic novel. 2w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @BarkingMadRead I've started as well. I'm really enjoying so far. 2w

Back on this book's bullshit, and this time it's making connections between unwanted or dangerous pregnancies and Northanger Abbey. Get this - what if Mrs. Tilney had been pregnant and died while miscarrying?? What if scenes of Catherine in her nightclothes were meant to be erotic reminders of female sexuality? What if Cath fiddling with the cabinet (heart fluttering, knees trembling) was a reference to masturbation? 😂 Never change, Helena Kelly.

Crinoline_Laphroaig Wow. This is what I don't get about analyzing authors work. You don't actually know what Jane Austen was thinking. And people come up with stuff like this. Maybe she was just telling a story and there was no symbolism. 2w
Andrea313 @Crinoline_Laphroaig Exactly. I actually do enjoy analysis like this because even if it's just a stab in the dark at what might be below the surface, it does sometimes bring out larger themes that I love to consider; this book's takes on Mansfield Park and P&P have added to my enjoyment of them both. But I take it all with a grain of salt, and with Northanger particularly. Like, its a silly and satiric take on gothics, let's be so for real. 2w

Kicking off the weekend the best way I know how - another YA adaptation for the #PemberLittens and a strong, cold G&T. Hope everyone has at least a little bit of laziness in front of them! #BooksAndBooze #BooksAndBlooms #JaneAustenThenAndNow

Pickpick

Completely lovely YA adaptation of Northanger Abbey with perfect gothic parallels and a sweetly real young love story for our two leading lads. I don't always love a graphic novel but this one captured me, and while it deals with more serious themes than the original (homophobia, racism, poverty, illness), it still feels like an A+ successor to Austen's novel. I have a feeling I'll be coming back to this one. #PemberLittens #JaneAustenThenAndNow

Midnight in Austenland | Shannon Hale

I had the same problem with this as the first book, which is that the whole Austenland experience seems to be a real drag. I skimmed ahead some and am not sorry I bailed.

#JaneAustenThenAndNow #Pemberlittens @Crinoline_Laphroaig

Crinoline_Laphroaig Austenland movie is much more fun. 3w
