All the Broken Pieces
All the Broken Pieces | Ann E. Burg
An award-winning debut novel from a stellar new voice in middle grade fiction. Matt Pin would like to forget: war torn Vietnam, bombs that fell like dead crows, and the terrible secret he left behind. But now that he is living with a caring adoptive family in the United States, he finds himself forced to confront his past. And that means choosing between silence and candor, blame and forgiveness, fear and freedom. By turns harrowing, dreamlike, sad, and triumphant, this searing debut novel, written in lucid verse, reveals an unforgettable perspective on the lasting impact of war and the healing power of love.

Amanda: "It's a YA story told in verse and about a boy from Vietnam who gets adopted by an American family shortly after the Vietnam War. It's told from his perspective, so you see history through the eyes of a child. I'm a sixth grade English teacher. This is a great way for my students to see that history is influenced by the perspective of whoever is writing it – and that history can change." #newyork

Borrowed this with a specific student in mind, and sure enough, I gave it to him yesterday even though I was only on page 88. He gave it back today and wanted another book, so I gave him BOOKED, which is where I found this book.
