"Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection."

I‘m happy for #diversereads from book club. This seems like “just” a fish-out-of-water procedural with an interesting setting, but there‘s much more, including a lot of implicit commentary about the British colonization of India. I knew very little about the details of that period, and the story was very illuminating. #AuldLangReads

#2020 #ReadingGoals

53 books = #2020 #ReadingChallenge ; at least one book per week, though I'll likely end up between 75-100

90% of total books read = #ReadWomen ; e.g., 48 of 53

90% of total books by women = #DiverseReads #DiverseBooks by women of color authors and/or Indigenous women authors and/or LGBTQ reads ; e.g., 43 of 48

12 books = #IntoTheForest group challenge on Goodreads

26 books = #LitsyAtoZ

An interesting read, especially as we explore new #readingchallenges for the year: https://apple.news/AMJSkPPKBRSiH2vwDC4e-rQ #DiverseReads #WeNeedDiverseReads

Cortg This made me go back and look up the authors I read this year, 25/73 were people of color so that's not bad but there's always room for improvement. I do try to read diverse authors and this article is a good reminder of that. 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly I have often thought of challenging myself in that or a similar way. Some year I‘ll actually do it. 2mo
writerlibrarian I've tried to read mostly women for the past two years. This past year I chose to read diverse voices. I discovered great writers. (edited) 2mo
Amandajoy I read about 60% women. I don‘t track authors of color, but I get a lot of my book recommendations from Book Riot, which leads me to think it‘s not too bad. Maybe that‘s a tracking stat I‘ll add for next year. 2mo
MrBook Ooh, this is interesting! 2mo

It's a fantasy story grounded in reality with a splash of romance and comedy. A fun read! It's one of the books I recently finished narrating. If you read it or listen to it let me know what you think! 🙂

I worry sometimes that when we think of “diverse books“, we revert to thinking about kids/YA and school reading lists. I've written today about the importance of ALL readers diversifying their personal reading lives. Diverse reading makes us better people, and the world a better place. Plus, Her Body & Other Parties is a PERFECT spooky Halloween read! http://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/diverse-books-reading-lists/ #DiverseBooks #DiverseReads

I'm working my way through this police procedural series set in Los Angeles. Detective Lou Norton is witty, clever, brash, and smart. She's great at her job. But not so much at her personal life. I love the complicated layers of this character and the plots so far have been exciting and unexpected. Recommended for anyone who likes mysteries but especially recommended if you love cop shows like Law and Order! #diversereads

MicheleinPhilly I have the first one of these. 6mo
valeriegeary @MicheleinPhilly I'm really enjoying them! I just finished the 2nd. Lou is turning into one of my fave detectives! 💪💪💪 6mo

This was not my favorite book of the year, but such an important one. As a white woman, raised in a two parent household, I acknowledge my privilege. I have no personal experiences to relate to those of the characters in this book. That is why, even though at times I didn't particularly enjoy it, I think it is such an important book to read. #diversereads #booksaswindows

A really good book I enjoyed listening to in 1 day. #lgbtq #comingofage #ya #diversereads

I know I‘m late to the #BFCr3 check-in, but it was a bit of a crazy day. My friend got hired Thursday at a new school and they have open house on Monday, so we went in to help her setup her room...all day.😔 so I didn‘t get my mental health goal in today, like I had planned, but I surpassed my 77,000 steps goal, I only drank 1 sugary drink, and read 1 book.

TheBookAddict I forgot I was supposed to track water intake, but I do know that I at least met that 64oz water goal half of the week. I also worked out Monday - Friday, no yoga though. #BFC (edited) 6mo

Fell asleep before posting last night, but one book done for #24B4Monday!
I am just barely giving this a pick. Mainly due to the very lovely dive into Chinese American culture. There are definitely some glorious food porn moments as well. I didn‘t live the main character though, she was just a bit drab to me. I enjoyed all the side characters though & still recommend! #audiobook #diversereads
