Our anxiety-ridden children are a mirror of our stressed-out planet. The soil is dead, the rainforests are gone, the ice caps are melting, and the children are expected to ace the math test tomorrow. Our children are over-parented and under-protected.

Dissolving Illusions details facts and figures from long-overlooked medical journals, books, newspapers, and other sources. Using myth-shattering information, this book shows that vaccines, antibiotics, and other medical interventions are not responsible for the increase in lifespan and the decline in mortality from infectious diseases.

- Glosses over root causes of hormone imbalances
- Never discusses nutrition or herbal remedies like wild yam cream or vitex chasteberry
- No mention of history of menopause in women from different cultures

Just another Rockefeller-indoctrinated physician only pushing FDA-regulated pharmaceuticals and warning the use of natural compounding facilities.

Informative for sure, but limited to Big Pharma knowledge only.

Even though she is “so LA”, she makes a good point.

To be in a healthy relationship with the not-so-perfect universe, you have to be willing to SERVE the universe in some way, whether that‘s through environmentalism, bringing positivity into a space, or donating a warm meal.

People returning from Burning Man (or Rainbow Gatherings) are changed because of the “helper‘s high” experienced in such a gifting economy. It‘s the power of community.

What‘s right to you may feel wrong to someone else based on their specific circumstances and vice versa. … And no matter how much you disagree with someone, it‘s in your best interest to empathize with where they are on their journey.”

“Who wants to hear from a person who has it all figured out? Not me. I hate when I‘m venting about something, and someone replies with. ‘Oh really? I don‘t have those issues at all!‘ What the f, Raj, I‘m not here confessing my negative feelings so that you can tell me you have positive ones all the time, okay? I‘d rather spill those feelings to Pria, who is also a hot mess, so we can try to work on ourselves TOGETHER.”

Endometrial hyperplasia: a precancerous condition where the uterine lining gets extra thick due to estrogen dominance. Symptoms include heavy periods and bleeding between periods.

This happens to post-menopausal woman only given estrogen without progestins for hormone replacement therapy.

This can also happen in aging or overweight women with hormone imbalances.

Ok, but what is the root cause of the hormone imbalances? 🤔 My guess? Frankinfood

It was informative. However, I can‘t help but wonder if many of the ailments (fatigue, brain fog, depression) that menopausal women face are actually the accumulation of heavy metals, Candida albicans (yeast), and parasites that were overlooked while hormones were more or less at normal levels.

So many weeds are actually edible, like dock, careless weed, black nightshade, kudzu, and bastard cabbage.

This illustrated book goes over the harvest and preparation for each plant in great detail.

“Coming to terms with aging and changing hormones is definitely a process.”
“Primary pain is what is actually happening, the physical reality.”
“Secondary pain is the negative emotions such as embarrassment, frustration, and fear of loss of control you might have about the event.”
“That secondary pain makes the experience harder and more stressful.”
“Be cognizant if you are adding secondary pain to your situation, and decide to let it go.”

“Women over 40 give birth to 4% of all babies. 75% of those are unplanned—In part because many women assume they can no longer get pregnant. Many women In perimenopause ovulate more than once a month, which can also make it harder to predict fertility.”

Questions I have about perimenopause:
What did ancient hunter-gatherer societies do differently for the aging women in the tribe?
What plants or natural remedies give relief?
Why do hormonal headaches start behind one eye and move across to the other in a day‘s time?
Can a woman have a regular 28-day cycle with all the signs of ovulation but not actually ovulate?
What is estrogen dominance?
Do emotions alter hormones?
What are all the symptoms?

Fortifiedbybooks The best book I've read so far that will answer nearly all of those questions and a whole lot more is The New Menopause (tagged). Also really good is her book The Galveston Diet, though updates to that based on newer scientific data are on The Pause Life website. 2mo

For a short #audiobook, it was nice. It read like a #guidedmeditation or a #manifesto. I listened to it while #foraging and walking the dog.

Find your oasis and rest; it is your right. We put our bodies through extremes daily as if it‘s our last chance for freedom, but to rest is sacred.

I‘ve listened to all of part 1, nearly 6 hours. It‘s been a nice foray into history and setting the stage for how different the future may be. Unfortunately I have to return it and wait until it‘s my turn to borrow it again and finish it. Almost doesn‘t seem relevant anymore now that generative AI and climate crises are changing the world.

So good and so practical that I listened to it twice.

The author recommends #StitchFix for new clothes, but that service is problematic. First off, it‘s not cheap. A pair of shorts are $68. 😮 And the “fixes” I got were all sweaty polyester! Hardly any hemp, linen, or cotton, as it is all fast fashion. The only good thing is that the AI figures out your sizing perfectly after you provide feedback, so you can know your size for different brands.

Tamra Wow, that‘s too pricey for me re: shorts. Especially since our shorts season isn‘t long enough. 2y

I don‘t ever read fiction so I have nothing to really compare this to, but I liked it. The perfect sized book to bring out and kill 30 minutes. I kept wanting to know how things would play out. I didn‘t realize there was an epilogue and the first chapter of another book at the end, so when the book ended, I was surprised and expecting more.

The BEST short read book out there. Our perceptions and misperceptions of our environment is what controls our body. Only 2% of the human population can actually blame their problems on DNA mutations… for the rest of us, our disorders and diseases are the result of inappropriate signals such as nerve damage (trauma), poisons, and subconscious thought patterns.

A great short read! This cell biologist presents the science behind being in love. We are not controlled by our DNA… instead it‘s our environment that either makes us grow or makes us shrink.

Don‘t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Romans 12:2 TLB

We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by peoples trickery, by their craftiness and deceitful scheming. But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ. Ephesians 4:14-15

Quick read. Most of the ideas in here are similar to all the other self help books out there that help you achieve your goals... just tailored to weight loss.

I did learn something though... if you‘re struggling with confidence, find someone who is doing what you want to do and say, “well if she can do it, so can I!”

Also, make friends with people who are on the same healthy path. 74% of obese people have mostly obese friends, so branch out.

I found myself listening to the audio at slower speeds and read it twice to mindfully take it all in.

In addition to mindfulness, I experienced presence and interconnectedness.

Bailed. Probably doesn't intrigue me because I boycotted social media forever ago.

Litsy doesn't count as social media because I only use it to track books.

Discord doesn't count either because I'm only on servers for productivity, accountability, and learning Python.

And NextDoor doesn't count either because I use it for neighborhood safety.

I choose not to spend time chatting online. Nature and real life connections matter to me more.

The author's son denounced his line of work arguing that extending the human lifespan will actually be worse for the world b/c people will be around longer to muck it up.

Indeed, we generally tolerate old, bigoted politicians b/c we know their reign is limited.

The author is also very optimistic about the future except for one thing... A global pandemic. If we aren't prepared, a mutated flu virus could shorten the average age. Published Sept '19

I took it yesterday for the first time, and I will continue taking it for a month or two and report back later.

Also, yesterday I made a testimonial video on Viome! https://youtu.be/3G8wYeuGP1c
