Garrett and I read this book over the holidays and took the action steps together.

Here is the vision board we made together based on our top 5 values as a couple.

I learn something every time I listen to this book.

I‘ve listened to all of part 1, nearly 6 hours. It‘s been a nice foray into history and setting the stage for how different the future may be. Unfortunately I have to return it and wait until it‘s my turn to borrow it again and finish it. Almost doesn‘t seem relevant anymore now that generative AI and climate crises are changing the world.

So good and so practical that I listened to it twice.

The author recommends #StitchFix for new clothes, but that service is problematic. First off, it‘s not cheap. A pair of shorts are $68. 😮 And the “fixes” I got were all sweaty polyester! Hardly any hemp, linen, or cotton, as it is all fast fashion. The only good thing is that the AI figures out your sizing perfectly after you provide feedback, so you can know your size for different brands.

Tamra Wow, that‘s too pricey for me re: shorts. Especially since our shorts season isn‘t long enough. 8mo

I don‘t ever read fiction so I have nothing to really compare this to, but I liked it. The perfect sized book to bring out and kill 30 minutes. I kept wanting to know how things would play out. I didn‘t realize there was an epilogue and the first chapter of another book at the end, so when the book ended, I was surprised and expecting more.

The BEST short read book out there. Our perceptions and misperceptions of our environment is what controls our body. Only 2% of the human population can actually blame their problems on DNA mutations… for the rest of us, our disorders and diseases are the result of inappropriate signals such as nerve damage (trauma), poisons, and subconscious thought patterns.

A great short read! This cell biologist presents the science behind being in love. We are not controlled by our DNA… instead it‘s our environment that either makes us grow or makes us shrink.

Don‘t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Romans 12:2 TLB

We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by peoples trickery, by their craftiness and deceitful scheming. But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ. Ephesians 4:14-15

Quick read. Most of the ideas in here are similar to all the other self help books out there that help you achieve your goals... just tailored to weight loss.

I did learn something though... if you‘re struggling with confidence, find someone who is doing what you want to do and say, “well if she can do it, so can I!”

Also, make friends with people who are on the same healthy path. 74% of obese people have mostly obese friends, so branch out.

For me, the most profound lesson from this book was How to Wash the Dishes.

I found myself listening to the audio at slower speeds and read it twice to mindfully take it all in.

In addition to mindfulness, I experienced presence and interconnectedness.

Bailed. Probably doesn't intrigue me because I boycotted social media forever ago.

Litsy doesn't count as social media because I only use it to track books.

Discord doesn't count either because I'm only on servers for productivity, accountability, and learning Python.

And NextDoor doesn't count either because I use it for neighborhood safety.

I choose not to spend time chatting online. Nature and real life connections matter to me more.

The author's son denounced his line of work arguing that extending the human lifespan will actually be worse for the world b/c people will be around longer to muck it up.

Indeed, we generally tolerate old, bigoted politicians b/c we know their reign is limited.

The author is also very optimistic about the future except for one thing... A global pandemic. If we aren't prepared, a mutated flu virus could shorten the average age. Published Sept '19

I was so excited about resveratrol that I went to the apothecary and found a supplement that contains both resveratrol and NMN, the other compound David Sinclair touts for stimulating sirtuins (word of the day).

I took it yesterday for the first time, and I will continue taking it for a month or two and report back later.

Also, yesterday I made a testimonial video on Viome! https://youtu.be/3G8wYeuGP1c

Please check it out and 👍 give it a like.

This is Horsemint. You can chew the leaves for a minty fresh breath.

Resveratrol is a chemical found in wine from stressed-out grapes that slows aging. Many life-saving drugs on the market come from stressed-out plants.

When humans experience hormesis like ice water plunges (Wim Hof), calorie restriction (IF), or exercise (HIIT), the cells in our body refocus their energy on repairing rather than reproducing, and that's one way to slow aging.

Solving individual diseases is costly and ineffective. To truly extend our lifespan and quality of life, the disease of aging must be solved. And it's being solved right now. This is beyond cancer, beyond cell division, beyond telomeres...

If we could slow aging even just a little bit, imagine the impact it would have on all diseases associated with aging.

Imagine being 80 years old and feeling like you're 25 without wrinkles or gray hair.

Sace I'm kinda fine with wrinkles and gray hair. I could do without creaky joints 😂 4y

The brain is wired to answer questions. Instead of letting limiting beliefs shut you down, give your brain the respect it deserves to think on your behalf.

Change "I can't" into "How can I?"
Change "I know this already" into "What can I learn from this?"

Where do beliefs come from?
1) environment (think hand-me-down beliefs)
2) experience
3) evidence (think experts)
4) examples (think role models)
5) envisioning (when there are no examples)

Boy, do I relate to Dee. just like her I feel more comfortable watching a YouTube video how to repair a weed eater than attending a baby shower. Just like her I have trouble asking for help. Just like her I worry about my carbon footprint and where things come from. Just like her, I feel both sorrow and relief from letting go of my things. She is a great writer. I love her similes.

One of my goals this year is to learn about home-buying. From this book and all it's big data, I've learned that home-buying is probably not for me. 1st, I don't intend to stay anywhere more than 5 years. 2nd, all my savings are in retirement, so I can't afford a down payment. 3rd, even though there are grants for first-time buyers with lower income, the volatility of the market actually traps these buyers into poverty. No mention of tiny homes.

My reading goal of 2020 is to read just 10 books.

I've got several other BIG goals like becoming a data scientist, getting stronger and leaner, and becoming the best leader I can be at my job through planning and organizing.

If I'm spending most of my free time learning data science and exercising, that doesn't leave me much time for reading..... But since I'm doing a great job organizing my time already, I might surpass my goal!

To 2020!!!
