Second in his Bernie Gunther series of hardboiled crime set in Nazi Germany. A good read overall, though the plot was a bit silly and there were a couple of needless sex scenes thrown in for no real reason.

Might have been my concentration levels but didn't find it all that gripping.
It's been a while since I read the first Bernie Gunther book. From what I remember I liked it. I'm now selecting my choices on a whim. I tend to approach life in general with the same tactic as well 😂
I keep trying to tell myself to consider the time period in which Kerr sets his Bernie Gunther novels, but the sexism and treatment of women is just gross. I‘m bailing 2 hours into the audiobook. I don‘t remember the first book in this series being so bad. #hardpass
I didn‘t hate it, but the gruesome rapes/murders of the teenage girls are rough to read and feel gratuitous in a sense. Really illustrated how done I am with books where women exist to be brutalized as plot devices.
The second in Philip Kerr's BERNIE GUNTHER SERIES is another note perfect, twisting historical noir thriller that takes you to the heart of the rivalries permeating the Nazi regime and the lengths that the fervent anti-semites would go to further their own agenda.
