The beginning was good. Interesting to go with WWII from the POV of an Italian prisoner at a Nazi war camp, but then literally half way through the book, he escapes and wanders through the woods on an adventure to Romania with a deserter he meets by the river. After he escapes the work camps I lost interest in the story because it became very "Into the Wild"-ish.

I don't regret reading it, but it's one I don't highly recommend.?
