An Amish Bed and Breakfast Mystery with Recipes PennDutch Mysteries #1 Bubbling over with mirth and mystery. Dorothy Cannell A delicious treat! Carolyn G. Hart This debut mystery introduces Magdalena Yoder, prim, proper, and persnickety proprietor of the PennDutch Inn, where guests luxuriate in the true Amish experience, (read: doing Magdalenas chores and paying top dollar for the opportunity!). When one of her more reclusive guests takes a tumble down the PennDutchs picturesquely steep staircase and breaks his neck, the timing couldnt be worse. Its the start of hunting season and her inn is packed to capacity! What at first seems to be a horrible accident (and insurance nightmare for Magdalena!) could turn out to be a much more sinister event; and when another mishap occurs, Magdalena is certain there is a killer in her group and its up to her to sniff out the culprit...before the worlds most incompetent town sheriff throws her in jail! Readers will delight in this laugh-out-loud cozy mystery debut and relish the country cooking recipes included.

“Never miss out on an opportunity to kick a dead horse; it is, after all, a form of exercise.”

I never expected a cozy mystery to nail “stubborn Pennsylvania Dutch lady” so succinctly.

Kirkus Reviews gave this a starred review. I was disappointed. First in the mystery series featuring Magdalena Yoder, it's dubbed a Pennsylvania Dutch mystery. Some of my ancestors were PA Dutch, so I thought this would be fun. I really didn't like Yoder; she was so judgmental. I'm surprised she wasn't a victim, honestly. Her sister wasn't much better - very flighty and very childish, despite being well into adulthood.

Too many dud reads lately!

DivineDiana I was in Pennsylvania Dutch country last week and was thinking that it would be fun to read a book from this genre. Thanks for telling me to avoid this one! 7y
Librarybelle I had high expectations for this one, @DivineDiana . I feel let down...still trying to figure out how it received a starred review. I missed something! 7y
