I couldn't pick just one favorite from last year, so here are six! Fun fact: Amateurs was the first book I ever posted about on Litsy! And, as always, thank you, @Liberty (and also thank you for the rec of Kevin Kramer Starts on Monday via All the Books!). #THISISTHEEND

My #firsteverlitsypost was so simple--just a quote from Amateurs by Dylan Hicks (fitting, really, since I was such an amateur haha), which was the second book I read after a four-month long reading slump that ended at the end of May. I can't believe it's been only four months since I joined @Litsy -- love you guys! #Booktober #FirstLitsyPost

For #FunFridayPhoto. I've identified with different characters over the years. In terms of recent reading, I saw a lot of myself (as I currently am) in Sara Crennel, one of the protagonists of Amateurs. This passage is a good example of how and why I identify with her.

Pickpick

I debated giving this a "so-so" rating but realized that impulse was because it's not for everyone; it can be overly pretentious at times, albeit if not self-critically so, then with pervasive self-reflexivity. Ultimately, the target audience is those of the readerly/writerly persuasion.

She thought about her life's ungoogled names; these were people about whom she truly gave not one fuck.

This passage seems like a helpful hint from Hicks about how to read this book, which is filled with ridiculously obscure words that I have never encountered...(I feel I have some authority to make this judgment given my 8+ years as an SAT tutor.)

If only he were less pathetic, she could feel better about finding him insufferable.
