Big Paul is basically me (redhead with very curly hair) & it has been awfully hot for July. These are the nicest things I have to say about this one, which I read because Noll was referred to as a Brazilian Murakami. Vaguely masochistic in an overtly wannabe Hemingway-esque way & mostly boring--the bulk of the action is rushed during the last 20ish pages and I cared more about seeing the book through than the narrator or his fate. A pile of meh.

My life/work schedule is super last minute, so I didn't get tickets to either BEA or BookCon in advance because I didn't want to buy them and not be able to attend.

I was playing around with some hand-lettering last night and wrote out my May reads--six books total isn't so bad given that I was in a slump in April. I'm having trouble picking my favorite--it's a three-way tie among The Nest, The Secret History, and Talking as Fast as I Can.

What's the difference between a drama queen and just full-on psycho? Regardless, Martha (and maybe George, too) from Edward Albee's play Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is my pick for today's #characters2017 theme of #dramaqueen. (Despite the recent controversy coming from the Albee estate--seriously, wtf--I still love the play.)

At what point does the perpetual stream of bad days become something else? A bad week, month, period, general time? Sigh. Trying to do some self care by spending some alone time with my book and a glass of wine at one of my favorite West Village spots.

I had an Epically Bad Day™, so I had pancakes and wine for dinner, resulting in a pancake coma and being in bed before 8 PM. These are my plans for the evening: starting a new book (yay!) and continuing to knit the ugliest scarf that ever did scarf. Also, rewatching 30 Rock on Netflix. Winning?

I was cleaning out my closet and found this amazing t-shirt from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart circa 2004. Still relevant or more relevant now? Sad to think about, but also, man, can we talk about how cool I was as a teenager?

Finished this around 1 AM -- a cute retelling of The Taming of the Shrew, which is an important play to me: my parents named me after Cole Porter's musical "Kiss Me, Kate," which is based on TotS. So, I was biased to like it, which deterred me from labeling it "so-so."

A light, fluffy read. Kate was a little too determinedly antisocial, which was probably a conscious move to mitigate the oft lambasted misogynistic themes of Shakespeare's text.

It's about 4:30 on Sunday, and so far today I have had (an alcohol free) brunch with my best friend from college and her baby, performed long form improv at UCB, had a post-show mimosa and brownie batter in a jar with @LBApple and her husband, and took a walk through a very crowded Washington Square Park.

Now, I'm starting a new book on the train home. Who's that busy bee? It me.

Thank you to the Littens who recommended this--a novel about a dysfunctional New York family told from multiple perspectives? As far as genre goes, it is up my alley & then some. I described it to a friend: "Think A Visit from the Goon Squad meets This Is Where I Leave You."

Sweeney's writing is gorgeous and I found myself rooting for all of the characters (except Leo), despite their myriad flaws, neuroses, quirks, etc.

Good morning, Littens! It's Friday and I don't have to work today, so I'm relaxing on the deck with coffee and this fantastic book (thank you to everyone who recommended it--could not be more up my alley). I've got about 40 pages left, so I'm hoping to finish before I have to move on to adulthood things like laundry and cleaning.

TFW you realize it's only Tuesday, but at least there's wine and your book.

I usually switch to a physical book once I'm on the subway, but this #audiobook was so delightful that I kept listening. I'm a huge Gilmore Girls fan, so hearing how much Graham loved the show, being Lorelai, and getting to be Lorelai again was as heartwarming as Stars Hollow.

An affable narrator/author/actress with whom I want to be best friends. Excuse me, I'm going to go rewatch all of GG (including a Year in the Life) now. All the stars.

Found this cute little book while browsing at one my favorite indie bookstores, Shakespeare and Company, and wished I could buy and send one to every single Litten ❤️

Had a little extra time this morning, so I walked through Central Park to get to the East Side to meet a client while listening to this amazing #audiobook.

I blame my brain's current dark and twisty place for this, but here's my offering for today's #RockInMay theme of #TheRiver...it was literally the first book I thought of because of the ending (or at least what I remember of it, I read this when I was 10?), and wow, that's depressing, let me go listen to some more of Lauren Graham's audiobook.

I've always thought that Lauren Graham and I would be AMAZING friends, and listening to her book on audio is only confirming that suspicion. I love her "Hollywood Food Chart," especially the "Does not apply to French people" disclaimer.

I got about ten minutes of reading at Starbucks in before I had to work and go about my day 😒

Alright, THIS is an #audiobook. (And it's about time I listen to this one.)

Bailing just over a minute into this #audiobook because I can't stand the narrator's voice. She sounds computerized, like Siri or Stephen Hawking's text-to-speech. I do still want to read this one, but will have to do so the "old-fashioned" way.
