Pickpick

I loved this. I actually listened to the audiobook 100% for this read. Note: I love everything this author writes. Setting is 1750's and British+French are at war in Nova Scotia.

The great thing about this audio is the authentic French Canadian pronunciation, the correct Mi'kmaq pronunciation, and the way I felt the narrator was seamless in her characterization of MC Amelie. I always forgot she wasn't Amelie and fell hard and fast into the story.

I'm listening to the Promises To Keep audiobook while I follow along with the paperback.

I LOVE the way the narrator Alexis Quednau reads the book, especially since the main character is Acadian. I love the French pronunciation for the words and names. I also love hearing the correct pronunciation for all of the Mi'kmaq words and names.

Melissa_J Glad you‘re enjoying this one. I have it on my TBR pile. 8y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders Ok! Good to know! Will search out the audio for this one! 8y
Spiderfelt It is surprising how frequently actors mispronounce names that have a distinctive local pronunciation. Wouldn't that be the first thing a publisher looked for in casting talent for the audiobook? That is such a peeve of mine. I'm glad they did well on this one. 8y
