Very promising halfway through, but disappeared up its own fundament. I didn't like Inception either, though, so if you did, take this with a grain of salt.

This book is truly odd. It's engaging enough to keep me reading, though, and it's set in my home town which is rare. Try it if you like surreal mosaic books. #booksandcoffee

Pickpick

Rubik name-drops films like Inception and the Matrix, but for me the closest comparison to its kooky surrealism is Charlie Kaufman movies.

What start out as unrelated short stories, gradually overlap and converge into one whole. Like a Rubik's cube, the colours unscramble, but the puzzle isn't solved completely by the end. This book messes with your expectations constantly.

Fresh and inventive, this is a terrific debut.

vivastory Sounds great. Stacked! 7y

"'Field note the fifth: the Concert Hall is quiet today,' you whisper into the dictaphone. 'The courtyard, vast. It proclaims the following architectural statement: We Have Stairs.'" - the April Kuan character is my favourite!

Rainy day + Baxters buns tea + a wonderful new book = a great start to the week. Happy Monday everyone!

Marchpane I have been tossing up whether to get this one - it looks good! Keen to find out what you think of it. 7y

Shan-nana @Marchpane I'm loving it so far. It's fun and easy to read, but I also have no idea where it's going, so it's intriguing too. 7y
