Between a pick and a so-so.

I liked the book, but it didn‘t blew me away. I was never fully engaged with it, and the ending annoyed me a bit. However, it was the kind of book that fits perfectly with my energy levels at the moment, and I quite liked the podcast format. 👍

Thanks for the book @BarbaraBB 😘

I forgot to post my #BookReport yesterday, so here it comes with my #WeeklyForecast 📚

I read the books lying down and listened to Lily and Dunkin. I think my fave was Eleanor and Park - it was just so sweet ❤️

I didn‘t get to Frankissstein this week, so on it goes to next week‘s reading list. But I‘m most excited about Sadie (from the sweet @BarbaraBB ❤️), so I think I‘ll start it today!

A Piece of Danish Happiness | Sharmi Albrechtsen
post image

I just signed up to #ReadingEurope2020, and I‘m excited! 🙌

@BarbaraBB asked for inspiration for Danish authors, so I thought I would compile a little sample of both classic and contemporay Danish authors, that I have read a liked/loved. There‘s a lot of crime/mystery writers in Denmark, but that‘s not my genre, so you‘ll have to find those for yourself 😅

List of authors in the comments 👇

Kalalalatja 1. Hans Christian Andersen - read his fairytales!
2. Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen) - most known for Out of Africa
3. Hans Scherfig - The Stolen Spring is the only book I had to read in High School Danish, that I ended up loving
4. Jakob Ejersbo - his Africa trilogy is considered a bit of a masterpiece in Denmark
5. Lene Kaaberbøll - YA Fantasy writer
6. Olga Ravn - contemporay, poetic, and a bit weird
6d
Crazeedi Thank you so much for the list! Very helpful to me for the challenge ❤ 6d
Kalalalatja Other noteworthy Danish authors (but not really my jam): Helle Helle, Dorthe Nors and Naja Marie Aidt - very Nordic, very contemporary, very minimalistic, very Danish 🇩🇰 6d

This was a fun and informative GN, but I have a feeling it would work better for a younger audience. I knew a lot of the women and the history told in the book, so there were no surprises for me. But nice artwork and a feminist history is enough to earn a pick from me! 🙌

Ever wondered what Penelope did all those years Odysseus was out adventuring, waring, tricking and exploring? This book gives Penelope‘s point of view, from being married off, always being in the shadow of her cousin, being disregarded, left behind and left to fend for herself in a world where a woman‘s word doesn‘t count for much. And in typical Atwood style, this is feminist, strong and a new take on a classic tale, and it was great!

When a book makes ypu tear up in your car on the way to work, you know it is a good one. This book felt like a squeeze to the heart and a big hug all in one. It was sweet, diverse, sad at times, and fun at times. Lily and Dunkin felt, to me, like great representations of a transcender child and a child with mental illness in the form of bipolar disorder.

In a maybe-not-so-distant #future we might end up in a situation like Peter - he is going as a missionary to a new planet to preach the word of the bible. At Earth he leaves his wife Bea, and slowly, and from a universe away, Peter learns how life on Earth has been changing in drastic ways. Will there even be a home for him to return to?

When Dunkin sees a #beautifulstranger in the form of a blond girl, in a red dress, with eyes as blue as forest lakes, he becomes instantly interested in learning more about her. But the next time he meets the girl, she is wearing boy‘s clothes and says her name is Tim. Which is the name Lily was given at birth, but not the name of her real self.

And so begins the story of Lily and Dunkin, which is shaping up to be just wonderful ❤️

Phew, this felt like a punch to the gut, but in a good way. I expected a sweet, YA love story, which I definitely got, but I got a whole lot more, too. I hadn‘t expected the darker sides of the story - bullying, racism, violence, abuse - but they brought some rawness and realness to the story, which I really liked!

1. Bring able to connect with book lovers, getting to know people from all over the world, getting honest book recs
2. I just scroll past, everyone likes something different
3. Grids, as suggested by @BarbaraBB and only one edition of each book. I hate having to stack a book again and again.
4. It has become less after I started working, but I try to post at least a couple of times a week

This book is about a boy and three #GirlsGoneWild in the fantastical Glass Town. Where Napoleon is riding around on a porcelain rooster, suitcases can transform into transportation and people are more often made from iron or wood, than from blood and bones. Kalalalatja @JennyM thanks lovely. I feel a bit disconnected to Litsy and littens, so I get it. I‘m trying to remind myself it is just phase, and trying to fill my days with good things. Hope you do the same 💕 1mo
batsy Was wondering how you were doing since I don't see you around as much! Hope the book and cake provided some good self-care time 💜 1mo

Congratulations on your big milestone @Librarybelle 🎉🙌🎉👏 it is so generous of you to celebrate with a #200kgiveaway!

After almost 5 months of full time employment, I‘m still struggling with finding energy to read. The only ways I get through books these days are by audio, or by reading YA/Fantasy (or a combination of both). Hopefully, Rainbow Rowell‘s “retelling” of HP will be able to keep me awake and get me into the reading spirit again 🤞

Librarybelle Thank you! Nice choice! 1mo

Finished this purple chunkster in the car (on audio) this morning, and what a ride it has been! Thanks for sending it to me @BarbaraBB 🙌 I loved experiencing the story unfold, and being sucked into the drama and intrigue. I wish Marianne had narrated more of the story, because I loved her voice, and some of the male characters got a bit too sexist (I know it is a product of its time, but it is annoying to read, still).

jillrhudy One of my very very favorites 1mo
ferskner I think that's something Collins is commenting on - men telling women's stories for them. At least that's how I read it, since he was pretty ahead of his time as a feminist. It adds an amazing layer to an already incredible book! 1mo

Congrats on your milestone @MatchlessMarie 🙌

We don‘t really celebrate Halloween in Denmark, even though some stores are trying to make a thing of it. However, I‘m all for eating candy, and I don‘t care if it‘s shaped like a ghost 👻 so yeah, eating candy and reading books are my spooky plans 😅

After a 5km #audiowalk I prepared breakfast for the next week - home made granola for my bf, and baked oatmeal porridge with blueberries and hazelnuts 👌

I‘m really enjoying the book so far, and it has been a perfect companion for my afternoon activities today 🙌

I don‘t really know how to review this, since I‘m normally a really big fan of Tan. However, this book didn‘t put him in the best of lights. It was messy and disjointed, and while I like Tan‘s fashion tips, they felt like something I have heard a million times before. Tan‘s history, problems with racism, and the love for his husband, were interesting to listen to, but they got lost in the messiness of it all.

Blaire Interesting to hear...I really like Tan and enjoyed his interview on fresh air. Too bad the book doesn‘t hold up. 1mo
tournevis Yours is the third nearly identical review I've read about this book on here. Must be true! 1mo

Do I love Jonathan Van Ness? Yas Queen!
Is this a literary masterpiece? Nope.
Did I enjoy it? Absolutely!

I will admit, the book felt a bit rushed, and I would have loved getting to know JVN more. It felt like the “highlights” (although, not all that positive), more than an in-depth-get-to-know-me book. Which is fair, I can respect his privacy, but it left me wanting more.

mklong Perfect review! 2mo

The Testaments: A Novel | Margaret Atwood

I had kept my expectations relatively low for this book. I knew it wouldn‘t be the next The Handmaid‘s Tale, and it wasn‘t. It was its own thing, and I‘m okay with that. Told through three perspectives, we learn of how Gilead continued on after Offred‘s escape, and especially Aunt Lydia‘s perspective was really interesting. I loved getting more details about Gilead and its origins, and I would happily read an entire book on just that subject.

4thhouseontheleft That's exactly how I approached it, and felt about this book! 💜 2mo

The books I read during July, August and September for #Booked2019. I just finished the tagged book, so haven‘t written a review yet, and I forgot to tag a lot of my reviews with the hashtags when I posted them, but I hope this is okay ☝️

I don‘t know why I waited so long to read this, but I‘m so glad @Cinfhen put it into my hands . Because it was goooooood. I can‘t really believe this is a debut, but I‘m definitely up for reading more of Niffenegger‘s work. I couldn‘t put it down, and I‘m so happy I had time to immerse myself into the world of time travellers and love for the weekend ❤️

LiteraryinLititz I‘m glad you liked it! I was blown away by this one as well. In case you‘re tempted to read her next book, my two cents is that it was WEIRD. Not necessarily good weird, just weird. My sister thought so too. But everyone has different tastes! And we still talk about this book, so I‘ll give her props for a memorable story! 😋 (edited) 2mo
KarenUK I loved this one, and loved Her Fearful symmetry too! 🤷‍♀️..... it‘s set in one of my favorite places, Highgate cemetery in London. It‘s a perfect read for Halloween! 👻 😊💕 2mo
BarbaraBB I enjoyed this one too. 2mo

Lcsmcat I second @LiteraryinLititz I loved the tagged book but felt Her Fearful Symmetry was just weird. I couldn‘t suspend disbelief for it like I could for the tagged book. 2mo
Jess861 I feel as though I'm one of the only ones who didn't enjoy this book. I found it impossible to get into and it took me forever to read. None the less, glad you enjoyed it :) 2mo
Cinfhen @Jess861 don‘t feel bad, I bailed which is how Katja ended up with my copy 🥰I‘m so glad the book found the right reader!!! It wasn‘t for me. 2mo
Kalalalatja @LiteraryinLititz @KarenUK @Lcsmcat I normally like weird, so I‘ll give it a go, but keep my expectations in check 👍 @Jess861 @Cinfhen one woman‘s “trash” another woman‘s treasure 😉 2mo
Lcsmcat I hope you enjoy it. 2mo
Centique I loved this one too! I thought Her Fearful Symmetry was super creepy - like @LiteraryinLititz it‘s stayed with me - even though I was creeped out at the time, I like looking back on it 😊 2mo
