3 posts | 5 read | 4 to read
Trapped in the mists of time by a terrible research experiment gone wrong, John Blake and his mysterious ship are doomed to sail between the centuries, searching for a way home. In the ocean of the modern day, John rescues a shipwrecked young girl his own age, Serena, and promises to help. But returning Serena to her own time means traveling to the one place where the ship is in most danger of destruction. The all-powerful Dahlberg Corporation has an ambitious leader with plans far greater and more terrible than anyone has realized, and he is hot on their trail. For only John, Serena, and the crew know Dahlberg's true intentions, and only they have the power to stop him from bending the world to his will . . .

Pickpick

I brought Phillip Pullman‘s new graphic novel home to read, but of course the nine-year-old read it twice before I got to it. I think it‘s better suited to the middle school audience, but he did love it.

John Blake holds the key to a time-traveling ghost ship, and some have already killed trying to find it. This action adventure is a page-turning read. Im intrigued to see where the series leads.

Pickpick

The first scene sets it up to seem scary. It wasn't scary, but it was full of adventure. This graphic novel sets up the characters and action nicely but leaves some unanswered questions. I love time travel, so I want to know more. It was an interesting start, and I think this will be a fun series!

Mehso-so

Philip Pullmans first graphic novel is all over the place. This reads like a summary of many John Blake adventures. So I didn't really care for any of the characters in the book. Illustrations are quite good though.
