Kings of Queens: The Amazing Lives of the '86 Mets | Erik Sherman
4 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
'Kiss boys two times after I have gone' On her deathbed, Kate Greene's only concern was for her two little boys, Reef and Finn, and her loving husband, Singe, who she was leaving behind. Over her last few days, Kate created Mum's List after Singe asked, 'What if you leave me?' They talked and cried together as Kate painstakingly wrote her thoughts and wishes down, trying to help the man she loved create the best life for their boys after her death. Kate's list is both poignant and life-affirming, funny and profound: 'Please teach the boys to say what they mean', 'Mummy loved orange Club biscuits, jam and jelly and lemon curd'. But this wasn't the first time Singe and Kate had faced death. Four years earlier, doctors discovered a large lump in baby Reef's abdomen. Kate, pregnant with Finn, was so upset that she gave birth dangerously early. Both boys pulled through, but afterwards Kate received the diagnosis that every women dreads . . . Mum's Listis an incredibly moving story of courage and love, telling of Kate's wonderful life and how, through her list, she lives on in the daily lives of her family, helping Singe move forward as he raises their boys alone.

A must read for fans of the late 80s Mets! Much more than a simple "where are they now", these player interviews are filled with insight, reflection, and even regrets from those glory days. I loved it.
