I enjoyed this book, even though it seemed loosely based on the food. Each event in history is explained as well as a meal that surrounded it. There are also recipes for the meals after each chapter which is a nice touch.

I gave this a try but after 115 pages I couldn't keep reading. All of the characters talk the same - like a guy in high school trying to act tougher than he is. I figured out the twist pretty early. It was a little slowly paced and the writing style was annoying and hard to read. It's too bad, it had good potential!

This story made me remember why I had wanted to become a zookeeper in college but also why I decided against it. All of the keepers have such compassion towards their animals, but the low pay and politics get in the way. Also it's heartbreaking what happens to the animals, especially when it's due to an terrible guest provoking the animals!

I agree with some of the other reviews on this. The author shows very little remorse for what she did. I would do anything for my cat but I would also try to find any legit job instead of putting all that time in for forgery. Especially since she still seemed strapped for cash. I found her hard to tolerate . Maybe the movie is better?
